The further south, the better the BBQ. Now that Bodean's has added a restaurant waaay down in Clapham, you can test that theory for yourself. This bright, funky dining room is like an American diner, only cooler, with formica-topped tables, antler-shaped lamps, and a bunch of tv's so you can watch mysterious North American sports while you dig in. Try starter of crab cake with southern spices, Boston Butt sandwich or great baby back ribs from the UK's first wood-burning smoke house, with coleslaw and corn bread. This magical neighborhood restaurant is popular with the fashionable SW London set when in the mood to chill. There are large sofas for slumping in with cocktails, whose descriptions add a bit of frivolity to the proceedings (Motel Martini - more invigorating than a Nordic ice bath and much closer to home. Food is lovely; try fresh seafood salad to start, followed perhaps by risotto of the day (always veggie). Finish with either the chocolate nemesis or passion fruit cheese cake. Good wine list. Service is charming and friendly. The best feature has to be the garden where you can eat al fresco in summer and, in winter, under a marquee lit by fairy lights; a magical space for wedding receptions, birthdays and so on.
